Empathic Connection

We thrive on connection and some even say we are hard wired for connection, yet it can seem so hard to do when you need it most.  Empathy is the missing link.  Empathy will help you support yourself and connect with others in situations in which you normally would feel lost.

What is the training like?

Empathy is very different from sympathy and in this workshop we will look at the difference and you will learn how to listen en speak with empathy. I will introduce you to some of the theory that will help you understand what is influencing your behavior. Then a demo will follow the theory and next you will get to practice in two’s or little groups to get the feel of it yourself. Practicing these skills this day will make you feel more confident in applying what you have learned outside this workshop. At the end of every topic we’ll do an evaluation to share what we’ve learned and answer any questions.

Professor in psychology Carl Rogers said about his experience with empathy:

“When someone really hears you without passing judgement on you, without taking responsibility for you, without trying to mold you, it feels so good.  When I have been listened to, when I have been heard, I am able to re-perceive my world in a new way and go on.  It is astonishing how elements that seem insoluble become soluble when someone listens.  How confusions that seem irremediable become relatively clear flowing streams when one is heard.”
